Now that Todd Akin is back with a new book and is defending his notorious "legitimate rape" remarks that torpedoed his campaign against Claire McCaskill for U. S. Senate, I can try for a revival of my 2012 hit song, "Akin Breakin' Heart." (It has to have been a hit; it reached number 41,232 on the Amazon MP3 chart. And it is the only song I have written to ever get that far.
In his new book, Firing Back, Akin revisits the remarks:
Akin writes he believes stress can affect a woman's ability to conceive, expanding on his earlier thoughts on the subject.
"My comment about a woman's body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress on fertilization," he writes. "This is something fertility doctors debate and discuss. Doubt me? Google 'stress and infertility,' and you will find a library of research on the subject.
"The research is not conclusive, but there is considerable evidence that stress makes conception more difficult," he adds. "And what could be more stressful than a rape?"
You have got to be kidding. He needs to crawl back under the rock.
ReplyDeleteStress does affect fertility, but that doesn't mean a woman won't get pregnant if raped.
ReplyDeleteThis guy needs to shut up. He's clueless and making things worse.
