Flood advisory issued for western Jasper, Barton counties

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
  CHEROKEE COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS...
  CRAWFORD COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS...
  WESTERN BARTON COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...
  WESTERN JASPER COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...

* UNTIL 900 AM CDT.

* AT 518 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  AREAS OF HEAVY RAIN PRODUCING THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF THE
  AREA. RAINFALL RATES OF OVER AN INCH PER HOUR ARE OCCURRING.
  ADDITIONAL STORMS FROM NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA WILL MOVE INTO THE
  AREA OVER THE NEXT HOUR WITH ADDITIONAL PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING.
  LOCATIONS IN THE ADVISORY INCLUDE...AIRPORT DRIVE...ALBA...
  ARCADIA...ARMA...CARL JUNCTION...CARONA...CARTERVILLE...CHEROKEE...
  COLUMBUS...DUENWEG...DUQUESNE...ENGLEVALE...FRONTENAC...GALENA...
  GIRARD...IRON GATES...JOPLIN...LIBERAL...MCCUNE...MINDENMINES...
  MULBERRY...ORONOGO...PITTSBURG...PRAIRIE STATE PARK...PURCELL...
  SCAMMON...VERDELLA...WALNUT...WEBB CITY...WEIR AND WEST MINERAL.
  CREEKS...STREAMS AND LOW WATER CROSSINGS WILL BE ESPECIALLY
  SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE DANGERS OF FLOODING.

POOR DRAINAGE AREAS AND URBANIZED AREAS WITH POOR DRAINAGE CAN
ANTICIPATE BRIEF FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED OR PONDING
OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON
SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...AND PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN AREAS...
HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER POOR DRAINAGE
AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.
