U.S. Rep. Billy Long issued the following statement after the House passed legislation to build the Keystone XL pipeline:
“The Keystone XL pipeline is about jobs and energy security for the American people. The pipeline would be the nation’s safest pipeline built to date, and after five reviews the State Department has found the Keystone XL pipeline to be in the best interest of our economy. The Obama administration has continued to delay this state-of-the-art energy infrastructure project despite the bipartisan support in the House and the Senate. I look forward to the new Senate majority passing this legislation and finally sending this bill to the president’s desk. It is way past time for the president to say yes to energy and the Keystone XL pipeline.”

The Keystone Pipeline in itself will not damage the environment as much as the process of extricating the oil from the tar sands. When oil was at $100 a barrel, the expense of the pipeline and the damage to the environment were justified by the perceived need for oil in America. However, it will now cost more to extricate and move the oil than it is worth. But, it is one of those issues of saving face to continue to fight this lost cause, so he will blindly vote yes, facts be damned.
Also, within the last few weeks it has finally been proven beyond doubt that fracking causes earthquakes. So, one might ask why are we still using so much oil instead of pursuing more environmentally friendly sources of energy? Because Big Oil lines the pockets of the legislature. You know, good old boys like our dear Billy, so that they can continue to dine at the trough, particularly if the trough is found in Dallas, Austin, or especially, Las Vegas.
