For the second straight year, a Joplin R-8 Board of Education president appears to be crossing ethical lines in an effort to be re-elected.
Anne Sharp, who is battling Jeff Koch and Lane Roberts for one of the two three-year positions available this year, has texted R-8 teachers asking for their help with her campaign.
Of course, that puts them in an unenviable situation since Sharp in her position as a board member has a say on matters that affect the teachers individually and collectively.
During the 2014 board race, President Jeff Flowers and favored candidates, including current board members Randy Steele and Shawn McGrew, held a slumber party inside the Administration, using the board president's key for access that other board candidates would not have had, so that their names would be the first on the ballot.
Flowers also violated a state law by promising to give unused campaign money to the Joplin School Foundation.
Flowers was defeated in his effort for a fourth three-year term.
Last year, just before the election, a mailing was sent, at taxpayers' expense, telling of all "the good things" that were going on in the Joplin R-8 School District. One of the key features of the mailing was a message from Jeff Flowers. Is such a mailing being planned this year with Anne Sharp telling patrons (i. e. voters) of all "the good things" that have gone on in the past year?
Sharp is the longest-serving board member, having won her first term in 2000.
This is offensive in so many ways it's difficult to list them all. Anne Sharp was president of the Board when CJ was hired. She brought him here and has been totally enamored of the little jerk since then. She has defended him completely, despite the evidence of the wrong doing he has committed. She's overlooked the empty bank accounts, the misappropriated funds, the firing and flight of staff, the deep loss of academic progress, and the mismanaged building process. She's joined him in fighting against teacher pay increase while CJ simultaneously increased his income greatly. She helped CJ stay in place by seeing to it that Shawn McGrew was put in Dawn Sticklen's place, despite the fact that the public did not want McGrew.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, she couldn't even give the teachers a lousy jeans day a week. It was bad enough that she allowed the abuse of staff, fought against their raises, and backed CJ all the way. but when it came to a morale builder that would have cost the district NOTHING, she joined ranks with CJ and Landis and voted against the measure. She will do nothing for staff but annoy them with her constant unsolicited pictures that no one wants. And now she wants OUR support?
A snowball has a better chance of surviving in July than Anne Sharp has of getting much teacher support. What she is doing is intimidating staff. She is, as Turner pointed out, and authority figure over us. Her pressure to campaign for her is unfair. She makes it difficult to say no. It is one thing if staff offers help, but it's wrong for her to solicit it. I would also like to knw how she got the numbers of staff members who have never shared their numbers with her. I'm guessing HR would be the place to start that investigation. I used to think that Anne cared about us, but after the last few years I know we are nothing but a means to an end with her, just like we are for CJ Huff. I am disgusted with her attempts to coerce staff into supporting her. Shame on you, Anne Sharp, shame on you.
Sharp, like her friend and accomplice Flowers, will be soundly defeated by a district that has seen enough of their blind devotion to a corrupt administrator. She's toast. Time for a new hobby, Suzanne.
ReplyDeleteDoes that include chocolate?
ReplyDeleteThis is predictable from a woman who's never had to work for a living. She has no idea what it's like to be a teacher or staff member trying to get by on an income that is so low. It's time crap like this was stopped. She did this kind of thing a few elections back--taking signs to schools and pressuring teachers--and was told to stop then. But rules don't apply to this board, do they? I guess the audit will help clarify that.
ReplyDeleteWith the audit coming out I don't think she will have much for bragging rights. She's got some explaining to do, and I don't think the people she's screwed over the worst are going to give her much support. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier...
ReplyDeleteMaybe she'll do an opening act for CJ on Friday when we are forced to listen to his speech (using the Jumbo Tron, I'm sure) about how bright our future is in R8. I'm sure they will both get a taste of how much support they have with staff. Idiots.
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing short of coercion and intimidation. People should not respond to her at all. Take a screen shot of your email or text and send it to your NEA rep or MSTA rep. Don't let her pressure you into supporting her. She can find her support in her social circle. If she still has one, that is.
ReplyDeleteJust say NO ... To voting for Anne Sharp.
ReplyDeleteWhat a power monger.
Randy, hope you'll publish that email soon
How did someone that has no knowledge of something this big, get to be the one in charge? Can someone clarify her qualifications for this job? I could be out in left field on this, but has she ever been a teacher and has she ever earned a pay check being a teacher? What is her pay now for being president?
ReplyDeleteWow. To even think of attempting this is idiotic, but to actually go through with this? This is just dumbfounding.
ReplyDelete@8:34 For the millionth time, school board members are not paid. It is an elected volunteer position. If you do not want Anne Sharp to serve another term, then vote for someone else this April.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid that Koch and Roberts will split the vote and she will slide right in.
ReplyDeleteTo 8:34 She is a trust fund kid, she has been drawing money from the Childress Royality Trust since she was 18 years old they were big in mining and oil, they are still pumping oil down in Midland Texas and own a couple of hundred properties around Joplin. Look them up.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually the Childress Royalty Company. Also see Acme Land Company.

Koch, Roberts and Sharp are running for the two positions that are currently held by Sharp and Kimbrough[who is not running for re-election]. Two of the three will be elected, therefore Dusty there's not the chance of splitting the vote. Voters need to vote for the two candidates out of the three [Koch, Roberts, Sharp] they want to fill those two respective seats. The other board position up for election involves the other three candidates running for that one position. I hope this is right, correct me Randy if not. Have a Dandy Day......
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteDandy brings to mind that killer sociopath from American Horror Story Freakshow....
ReplyDeleteYou know, the rich kid who ALWAYS got his way...
Then became an insane adult ...
