The C. J. Huff Administration is preparing to sock us with a tax levy increase proposal, undoubtedly accompanied with stories (accurate) of the poor conditions in some of the school district's elementary buildings, especially at West Central and Columbia.
Those schools, however, will have to wait for their improvements.
Meanwhile, the Joplin R-8 Board of Education is expected to approve spending nearly $60,000 for carpeting for the Huff Administration's new home at the old Memorial Middle School building.
The proposal, which is signed off on by Huff and buildings project coordinator Mike Johnson, indicates that the money will come out of the 2014-2015 capital outlay funds and that bids have already been taken.
Of course, it is on the consent agenda for Tuesday night's 6 p.m. meeting, meaning unless it is specifically brought up by a board member, it will be passed without a word of discussion.
For all the expenditures being funded by the capital outlay budget, one would think that is a bottomless well.
ReplyDeleteMission accomplished!
ReplyDeleteThe only way Huff will be stopped is if the parents demand his termination. Since the mayor and city council won't listern then the parents need to stop doing anything for the school system, no fund raisers, no volunteering, no nothing until he's gone. It may look like you don't care about the kids and thats what they will accuse you of. They will take a page from the Obama playbook. Don't listen in the long run you are helping more then you know. Stay strong.
ReplyDeleteThat's not the only way - We still live in Joplin, MO. We can attend school board meetings and be heard, but we need to attend in numbers and conduct ourselves professionally. Not Anonymous - I sign my opinions. Charlie McGrew
