At least one Jasper County Commissioner appears to have been aware of Mike Landis' plan to resign and force the Commission to appoint three members to the Joplin R-8 Board of Education.
Documents obtained through a Sunshine Law request to the Commission show that on May 27, one day after Randy Steele resigned, Superintendent C. J. Huff, obviously aware that Landis was planning on resigning as well, called the Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA) to find out what was necessary to get the Jasper County Commission to appoint replacement board members.
Susan Goldammer, senior director, employment and labor relations for the MSBA, e-mailed the information to Huff, "Any vacancy occurring in the board shall be filled by the remaining members of the board, except that if there are more than two vacancies at any one time, the county commission, upon receiving written notice of the vacancies shall fill the vacancies by appointment."
Goldammer was unaware that anything was in the works.
"As you can see, it takes three or more vacancies for the county commission to get involved. That has only happened once since I have been at MSBA. The Board will need to fill these two," she said, referring to Randy Steele and Lane Roberts.
Huff forwarded Goldammer's e-mail to Landis at 12:36 p.m. May 27. At 9:38 p.m., Landis forwarded the e-mail to Commissioner Darieus Adams.
Landis resigned the next day, setting the stage for the Commissioners to appoint Gary Nodler, Ron Gatz, and Sallie Beard.
Not at all surprised.

"All for the kids!"
Oh no Randy....not more documented facts giving your slanted opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of crooked s.o.b.
ReplyDeleteVote the crooks out while we still have a county.
What can I say, Anonymous 3:39? Old habits die hard.
ReplyDeleteSo very glad to be rid of these phonies! Who in their right mind is going to attend Huff's retirement reception on June 25th? At this point, I never want to lay eyes on that crook again. Huff, Landis, Steele, et al...the whole lot of them disgust me.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the Joplin Globe will report this information gathered from a Sunshine Law Request (which they claim to support and say is often violated)???
ReplyDeleteThe political elite in this town just cannot stand to be challenged, and will stoop to any legal maneuvering to maintain power. This is all evidence as to why we absolutely need people who are not in bed with each other in local elected office. They are only dragging things out and preventing real business from being conducted, and then they will blame Koch, Martucci, and Fort, as they always do. I know Edgar Simpson was not beloved by all, but I always remember that line that some local elite was reported to have said: "Why can't you play ball?" No single statement sums up the attitude of these people better. They have no regard for democracy; they actually believe in their own superiority. This is why they are not good leaders.
ReplyDeleteI would encourage Mr. Turner to keep reminding us these names when election-time comes, as it always does.
Huff should be shown the door tomorrow and his agreement reviewed, this is an ethical violation of his continuing to try to control what happens. It's over for him, he has done enough damage and just needs to go away. Good people with good intentions will win this when it's all said and done. The people's voice will be heard, it needs to get back to the education of the children, without them, there would be nothing to fight about and this fight isn't about them any more...it's sad...do the right thing, not what's right for your pockets...
ReplyDeleteWe said CJ was behind this and here's the proof. He's been paid off and is planning to still be the puppeteer. I hope the legal issues here are pursued and he has to answer up, along with his accomplices Banwart, Adams, Landis, Steele, and the commissioners.
ReplyDeleteThey don't even bother to cover their own spoor. They are very confident they are going to win. I wonder what it cost them to buy out the county and what it is they are trying so hard to cover up.
ReplyDelete339 please please explain how good document is slanted in Mr. Turners view. Amazing that most.everything he had posted had bern.legit.
ReplyDeleteSatire.
DeleteI honestly think that Huff and Landis were in collusion. Huff found out what would happen if Landis resigned and they planned the whole thing to keep the school board in chaos. If Huff isn't running it, he wants it to be a mess. He's a vindictive bully that throws a fit...either crying or yelling.. if he doesn't get his way. I wish we would have fired him and let him live on unemployment or reassigned him to work for his buddy and Building and Grounds so he'd have to earn the money we have to pay him. The people of Joplin want their schools and town back from these dispicible people that have run it into the ground.
ReplyDeleteAnd these are Anson's people. Nuf said.
