Judge Joseph Hensley denied a request to reduce Mohr's $10,000 cash-only bond. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 9 a.m. October 16.
Hensley appointed a public defender for Mohr.
Joplin Police arrested Mohr Saturday at Ernie Williamson Music, 925 South Range Line Road, with guitars stolen from a Newton County church and drug paraphernalia, according to the probable cause statement.
(UPDATED- The photos, shared by Ernie Williamson Music, show the Joplin Police Department arresting Ace Mohr and an alleged accomplice and the two men with the instruments, which were stolen from Racine Christian Church.)
Of course reducing bail was denied, for the time being. They need him off the streets and out of the headlines so all this attention can die down. After everyone has forgot about it...que the wrangling of the prosecutors office and he will be back on the job.
ReplyDeleteNewton County needs to file burglary charges since Jasper County does not appear to want to do anything to this criminal. How many drug charges does a person get by with? How many robberies? Now burglary?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Newton county doesn't have enough evidence to charge him with burglary. Simply being in possession of the items stolen from the church isn't enough to prove he was the one who actually stole them. Now we all know that there's a real good chance that he is...but that's just how the system works.
DeleteRandy I can't find any further activity on Ace Mohr after the receiving stolen property charge. Are they really going to let the 7th and Moffet robbery slide?
ReplyDelete@3:16 PM: It's very common for a prosecutor to initially file just one charge, something absolutely solid, as getting caught red handed and on video with stolen property is in this case, to "pin", you might say, the defendant in the judicial system. An honest prosecutor will then investigate other things like the robbery and later add them to the case, or, more likely, I would guess, since the two don't seem to be related at all, file another case.
ReplyDeleteHow much more solid does Dank need? There was a victim who identified Mohr and Prall as the person's who robbed him.
DeleteYour theory fell apart when you said "an honest prosecutor"
The burglary of the Racine Church most definitely is related to the stolen guitars being sold, which he was arrested. How many "smoking guns" does the PA in Jasper County need? Newton County will probably charge him and his buddies with burglary. Newton County takes drugs, burglary, robbery a little more serious than Jasper County.
ReplyDeleteWhy wasn't he charged with possession on either this case or the one 8 days before? I wish Jasper County would explain that to the cirizens.
Yes the burglary of the church and the stolen guitars are connected. And even though we KNOW he was more than likely the one who stole them, simply being in possession of them doesn't prove that fact. Newton county would have to have evidence that put him at the church at the time of the burglary to move forward with the case.
