Billy Long: With Trump, we will finally have a pro-energy president

(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)

January 20, 2017, will mark a new era for energy. For the first time in 8 years, we will have a pro-energy president who believes in an all-of-the-above approach to solving some of the energy challenges we are facing in the 21st century.

Though advances in technology have increased U.S. oil and gas production, we are still not a country that is utilizing all of its potential. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and Energy and Power Subcommittee, I have seen firsthand the importance of an all-of-the-above approach to energy independence. Unfortunately, we have relied too much on buying oil from other countries than relying on our own natural resources.

The Keystone XL Pipeline and Dakota Access Pipeline are recent examples of our president's policies hindering energy and job growth.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy, the Keystone XL Pipeline would have created 20,000 manufacturing and construction jobs, and for Missouri specifically, those numbers would have been 576 jobs by 2015 and 1,015 jobs by 2020. Along with creating jobs, the pipeline would have also increased personal income by $6.5 billion for American workers during the span of the project.

Even after being aware of the benefits and knowing that there would be little to no effect on carbon dioxide emissions, the President was swayed by private interests and politics rather than doing what was right.

On November 18, 2016, the Obama administration released its five-year plan for offshore oil and natural gas lease sales. It once again proved that the President would rather enact last minute rules and regulations than go through Congress. This plan listed the Arctic as off limits for both oil and natural gas lease sales.

With the Arctic being resource-rich, it's unacceptable to cut off any chance of exploring economic possibilities that could increase jobs and advance our goal of energy independence.

I will continue to fight for an all-of-the-above approach to energy. With President-elect Donald Trump taking office in January, I know the United States will once again be the pro-energy and job growth country it once was.

Remember what Billy Long and the Gas Energy Companies did for you Harvey, when your house is shaking from the fracking induced earthquakes in Oklahoma.

  4. Fracking is the most innovative technology to come along in a 100 years. God Bless George O Mitchell for being so tenacious to bring it to us.

All that whining from the liberals had no merit; but for the Yankees to keep Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma in bondage

Please move to an area where your house will be destroyed by fracking-created earthquakes! We will help you pack, Harvey.

I am sorry for the ignorance expressed by our esteemed representative. The crude from northern oil fields has been mostly destined for off shore sales and not for use by the US. The refinement of these "dirty" oils will increase air pollution in our country while allowing other entities to receive refined products. Latest news from WHO shows that many deaths can be attributed to air pollution and that 92% of the worlds population is experiencing high levels of respiratory problems from pollution. Again, we sell our oil products at these low prices and when they dwindle we will have to resort to buying higher priced products from foreign countries. More investment is needed in renewable energy that will produce more higher paying jobs and provide a medically proven cleaner climate for future generations. Europe leads the world in clean energy production and investment and we as usual are paying our oil companies to extract bad energy sources and slowly undermine our countries health. What a joke our representatives are to the American people and let us not get started with coal and it's destructive nature on air, water and land pollution. Stop taking bribes, campaign donations, from big oil, coal and gas and start doing your job of working to improve the lives of your citizens.

  6. Empire is converting all of their generators to natural gas.

France leads the world in nuclear, the ignorant liberals( like the one doing this blogging in a cowardly manner) stopped our nukes 30+ years ago.

Oil and gas is what will make America Great again, as soon as we get this onerous regulations corrected, and our pipeline infrastructure up to date. These are jobs that cannot be shipped overseas.

Empire is not converting any more generators to gas now that Riverton is complete.

There has been a natural gas renaissance under this administration. Billy Long's claims to the contrary are silly at best.

How not buying global warming denial or that many energy sources pollute in variously harmful ways somehow equates with a desire to be ruled by foreign fascists from 75 years ago who the US defeated in war??

    What is it Confucius said?

False equivalencies go with right wingnuts like peanut butter go with jelly!

Harvey, you still don't get it. The people of this country is neither pro Republican or pro Democratic, but rather, are equally pissed off at both parties. This election was a contest between a totally hated bitch and a stupid, self indulgent bully, equally hated. It was also a turning point in the political demographics. This is the last time when old, white men will be in control, not only of the Federal Government but of the State Legislatures and State Houses, and more importantly of the National Party Functions. Within the next two election cycles, young people and minorities will force change and take control. You can't stop it, even though you will give a major effort to do so. What you have to remember is that a lot of people took you all at your word when you made all those outrageous promises and they will be expecting you to deliver on those promises. If you do not, and you probably will not, they will be out for blood, your blood, in the next two cycles. You have finally reached the point where your friends are more dangerous to you than your enemies. Now is the time for you to lead from behind because if you lead from the front, your own troops will probably shoot you in the back. There will be a "cleansing" but it will not be ethnic in nature, but rather political in nature. Enjoy the ride Harvey, it will be a short one.

  12. They are blaming everything from the Russians to the FBI.
Tomorrow it will be the "vast right wing conspy"

Hillary hadn't recycled that one in a while

Kinda funny: Obama says he told Putin in September:"to cut it out"---so that ones Horne

Loretta Lynch told Podesta that he didn't know what he's talking about re the FBI--so that ones gone

What's left for the Liberal whiners?

No Harvey, I am not unhappy in the least. Personally I hope Trump destroys every Agency, Department and Program the Federal Government has. To hedge my bets, I just ordered a Russian language course.

He really does not have to move. As those quakes increase in frequency and severity, the damage will reach Joplin soon enough.
