North Middle School teacher pleads not guilty to statutory rape charge

North Middle School reading teacher Amanda Schweitzer pleaded not guilty to a felony statutory rape charge this morning during a video arraignment in Jasper County Circuit Court.

The next hearing for Schweitzer, who is being held in the Jasper County Jail in lieu of $40,000 surety bond and $10,000 cash bond, is 9 a.m. April 19.

Schweitzer was arrested after a Joplin Police Department investigation into her alleged sending of nude photos to three students led to the discovery of information indicating she had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy at her home.

The Joplin R-8 School District has placed Schweitzer on administrative leave.
