Charge in road rage shooting upgraded to murder in the first degree

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney has upgraded the charge against a Neosho man for the Saturday road rage shooting of David Reynolds, 27, Carthage, to murder in the first degree, according to a news release issued moments ago by the Joplin Police Department.

The probable cause statement initially filed when the charge was still assault detailed the confrontation between Chris Montz, 24, Neosho and Reynolds at Missouti Highway 249 near the intersection of I-44.

The statement indicates Montz and Reynolds pulled to the shoulder and while the men were arguing, Reynolds punched Montz twice in the face. Montz pulled a gun and shot Reynolds in the head.

Montz, who is being held in the Jasper County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond, is also charged with armed criminal action.
