Detention motion: Joplin woman should remain behind bars while awaiting trial on meth trafficking charge

A detention motion filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri says that a Joplin woman charged with meth trafficking should be held without bond while awaiting trial.

The allegations against Melissa Lowry, 43, were detailed in the motion.

Beginning on an unknown date, but at least as early as December 6, 2017, and continuing to on or about December 13, 2017, Lowry conspired with the other named codefendant in the Indictment to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine (actual);

On or about December 6, 2017, Lowry distributed a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine; and Lowry has three prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance, one prior felony conviction for creating a controlled substance, and one prior misdemeanor conviction for obstruction of judicial process.

In her first felony possession of a controlled substance conviction, Lowry received a sentence of probation. Her probation was revoked less than a year later.

For the reasons set forth above, the United States requests that a detention hearing be held and that the defendant be denied bail.

No date has been set for the hearing.

The probable cause affidavit in Lowry's case indicates she teamed with Carroll Flowers, 68, Galena, to distribute meth.
