Only three people filed for three three-year seats on the Joplin R-8 Board of Education before the deadline.
Jeff Koch, who served as president an unprecedented three years (every year he was on the board) before losing his bid for re-election, appears certain to return to the boaard barring the emergence of a write-in candidate.
Filing for re-election and virtually guaranteed of being elected to a second term are Derek Gander and Brent Jordan.
The other incumbent, Deborah Gould, who has served one term, did not file.
