Rembrandt Foods in Neosho to close, 52 jobs lost

Already reeling from the temporary closing of its biggest employer, La-Z-Boy during the COVID-19 crisis, the City of Neosho received another blow today with the announcement that Rembrandt Foods is closing its Neosho production facility.

Rembrandt Foods filed its federally required WARN Act notice to the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Wednesday and the City of Neosho Wednesday.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am the Vice President of Human Resources and Legal at Rembrandt Enterprises, Inc. (“Rembrandt”). This is to notify you that Rembrandt will be permanently ceasing operations at the Neosho facility located at 409 N. Wood, Neosho, Missouri 64850.

Unfortunately, the facility closure will be permanent in nature and will result in the permanent layoff of all employees at the 409 N. Wood, Neosho, Missouri 64850 location.

We expect the date of the first layoff to be during the 14-day period commencing June 1, 2020. Attached to this letter is the list of positions of each of the employees expected to be displaced. There are 52 full time employees impacted by this action.

There are no bumping rights or union representatives.

The closure had nothing to do with COVID-19. According to the Neosho Daily News, the company is moving the production to its Iowa facility.

La-Z-Boy announced Monday it was closing all of its U. S. plants, including the Neosho facility, which employs approximately 800.
