Eighty-year-old man is Joplin's 26th COVID-19 death

An 80-year-old man is the 26th Joplin resident to die from COVID-19, according to a news release issued today by the Joplin Health Department.

Statistics posted on the city's COVID-19 page, updated this morning before the announcement of the latest death, indicate the city has 24 residents hospitalized due to the coronavirus, with the COVID-19 units at Mercy and Freeman hospitals currently treating 69 patients.

That total was described by Health Department Director Ryan Talken as "full, but manageable" during a press conference at City Hall this morning.

Joplin has 175 active cases and 330 people under quarantine.
