Artist Lowell Davis dead at 83

The man known as the "Norman Rockwell of Rural Art", Lowell Davis, died this evening at Red Oak II.

While Davis was known nationwide for his rural art, his masterpiece was Red Oak II, the recreation of the small community where he was born.

Davis bought, moved and restored buildings from his home town, which was nearly a ghost town and moved them to his home just outside of Carthage where the memories of his childhood became not only a work of art but a tourist attraction for the past several decades.

Davis' death was announced this evening with this message on the Red Oak II Facebook page"

Lowell Davis, 83, passed away peacefully at 5:21 PM today in his home at Red Oak II with his wife Rose and son Aaron by his side.

Lowell was an amazing artist leaving a huge legacy with his many works of art in many different media.

He was a great friend to many who loved sitting on the porch and listening to his stories. He will be sadly missed by Rose, Aaron, and many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his many friends and collectors.

Rose will provide more details shortly on how you can contribute to a fund to help maintain Lowell's great work of art, Red Oak II, in lieu of flowers.
