Joplin man pleads guilty to murder following plea bargain, sentencing set for December 14


A Joplin man who was charged with first degree murder in connection with the January 11, 2019, stabbing death of Shawn Rockers, 27, pleaded guilty today in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Sentencing for Michael J. Osborne, 32, will be held 9 a.m. December 14.

Under a plea bargain agreement, Osborne pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second degree murder, but will be sentenced as a persistent offender.

Osborne's trial had been scheduled to begin November 10.

Judge Dean Dankelson ordered a sentencing assessment report.

According to the probable cause statement, Osborne had threatened to kill Rockers a week before the fatal stabbing.
