Joplin man pleads not guilty to murder, abuse of two-year-old, trial date set

A Joplin man charged with first degree murder and six counts of felony child abuse entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment via polycom this morning in Jasper County Circuit Court.

A trial date of November 29, 2021, was set for Brian O'Grodnick, 22, who allegedly killed two-year-old Jameson Long by repeatedly hitting him, according to the probable cause statement and faces two counts of child abuse that were also filed following the child's autopsy.

The child died at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City June 2. The abuse that led to the murder allegedly took place May 30 and May 31.

The remaining four child abuse counts were for alleged earlier crimes against the child from incidents captured on video during April and May.
