Joplin City Council votes 7-2 to lease city stadiums to Parkwood Tournament

Parkwood Tournament, LLC, was awarded a three-year contract to lease and operate four stadiums for the next three years, thanks to a 7-2 vote by the Joplin City Council Monday.

The decision was approved despite a request from the not-for-profit Joplin Sports Authority to be given time to present a counter-proposal.

Council members Chuck Copple and Diane Reid Adams cast the dissenting votes.

Voting in favor of the contract, which will give Parkwood Tournament and its principals Mike Greninger, Bobby Landis and Don Patty effective control over the use of Joe Becker Stadium, Wendell Redden Stadium, Gabby Street Field and the Bassman Softball Complex, were Mayor Ryan Stanley and council members Gary Shaw, Anthony Monteleone, Phil Stinnett, Keenan Cortez, Doug Lawson and Christina Williams.

I don't get it. The Parkwood guys are going to do what the JSA has already been doing? I go to a lot of baseball games. With the Outlaws sidelined for the year, the JSA did an impressive job of filling the park with tournaments. It will be interesting to see how Parkwood can top that.
