Tulsa station fires former KODE anchor Tiffany Alaniz

Former KODE anchor Tiffany Alaniz was fired from her job as 5 and 6 p.m. anchor at KOKI Fox 23 in Tulsa.

"Three days ago, I found out I will no longer be working at Fox23 News with my LONGTIME teammates, who I love and are family to me," Alaniz posted Thursday on both her Facebook page and Twitter account.

KOKI has already removed Alaniz' biography from its website.

Industry website FTV Live indicates Alaniz may have been fired following a social media posting that did not reflect well on the station:

While it's not totally clear as to why she was dismissed, station sources say that after the internal e-mail was sent out that Alaniz was no longer with the station, management immediately followed that message with a reminder to station personnel about the company's strict social media policy that says employees cannot take political stances on their social media accounts, and they must uphold high standards of fairness and protecting the station's image with how they use their accounts on all platforms.

KOKI officials took the action less than two years after they suspended Alaniz following a rollover crash into a utility pole that resulted in a DUI arrest and the loss of power in a large section of Tulsa.

The dismissal was only part of a difficult week for Alaniz, who reported on her social media accounts that her pet dog Sugarplum died Christmas morning and that she is awaiting COVID-19 test results for her daughter, who has been sick for a couple of days.

Alaniz, a Tulsa native, anchored KODE's 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts during the early part of this decade, after spending the 2000s at KSN, forming a highly successful team with weatherman Gary Bandy, first on the morning show and later with a 5 p.m. newscast/talk show format.

For a time, Alaniz also served as assistant news director at KSN.
