Horny Joplin attorney waives indictment; trial date set on bribery, drug trafficking charges

A Joplin man who allegedly traded favors for sex while serving as Ottawa County, Oklahoma assistant district attorney waived his indictment on bribery and drug trafficking charges Monday in U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

A July 18 trial date was set for Daniel Giraldi also known as "Vegas G," who remains free on bond.

Charges were initially filed against Giraldi April 25, but a grand jury indictment was handed down May 18.

According to the probable cause affidavit, which was filed April 25, Giraldi began trading favors for sex during his previous employment at a private law firm in Ottawa County.

In his position as an ADA, Giraldi would receive sexual favors in exchange for special treatment for certain defendants and their cases. Additionally, Giraldi coerced, induced and enticed women to travel within the territory or possession of the United States for paid sexual intercourse both with U. S. dollars and in exchange for controlled substances, including schedule II and schedule IV substances.

The affidavit indicates the government used a confidential source, who asked for help from Giraldi with a case and who was eventually offered drugs in exchange for sex. The meetings between Giraldi and the confidential source were recorded.

The confidential source was a former client of Giraldi's, who allegedly had received favors from the attorney and in return provided him with sex.
