Very likely to be the first guy. Has brass experience in a big Dept and range of leadership and areas. Even him being out for awhile isn’t a big deal with his experience.
ReplyDeleteThe fact your third best candidate is basically a small town lawman is VERY telling about the interest in the job and the field of candidates. The job isn’t terrible per se but the field is drying up.
What about other applicants you turned down? Word on the street is former Police Chief Matt Stewart applied and was rejected by the city manager. Between Stewart and Brian Lewis, Stewart on paper alone has a lot more qualifications. This is just a fog and pony show, city manager will hire Brian Lewis no matter what. Lewis is a nice guy, but lacks respect of the department and wants to be more of a political department head. This is a big show out on by the city manager at the expense of the taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you hire Matt Stewart back? He had the job and quit.
ReplyDeleteHe was eligible for retirement, the then City Manager Sam Anslem who was later fired was causing all sorts of problems for the PD. Matt is probably the best Chief Joplin ever had and was very well educated.
