Allegation: 12-Pack Challenge leads to Joplin man's third DWI arrest

A Joplin man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after telling a Joplin police officer "I'm drunk" Sunday and admitting to taking part in a 12-Pack Challenge, according to the probable cause statement.

Police were called when Jason Phillip Madden (DOB 1997) ran off the road and onto the hill of a business parking lot, the statement said.

Madden told me he had been drinking with his friend at his home and was doing the “12 pack challenge,” with beer. He said he did not want to lose so he drank all of them but was not good at holding his liquor. When I asked him where he was going, he said he was just driving around.

Madden provided a breathalyzer sample of .177  and admitted to police he had consumed 14 to 15 Miller High Life beers in a four-hour period, according to the probable cause statement.

Madden was arrested for DWI in 2018 in Pineville and by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Springfield in 2020.

Bond for Madden is set at $5,000 cash or surety.
