Probable cause: Carthage woman charged with five felonies after traffic stop reveals meth, loaded stolen gun

 

A Carthage woman faces five felony charges following a traffic stop Sunday at 300 S. River Street in Carthage.

Connie Jean Hendrix (DOB 1979) is being held in the Jasper County Jail on no bond.

According to the probable cause statement, after Hendrix was stopped for traffic violations and consented to a search, a Carthage Police Department detective found two baggies with 3.8 grams of methamphetamine, "a scale, snort straw, broken glass pipe, 44 small baggies (which all contained a white, powdery residue) and 33 tramadol."

After Hendrix was arrested, a search revealed "a glass pipe with burnt white residue on her person" and 41.4 grams of methamphetamine in a large clear baggie and a black Smith and Wesson firearm loaded with 12 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, the probable cause statement said.

The statement noted that Hendrix is "a convicted felon in multiple states."

During her interrogation, Hendrix said she bought the gun a week earlier and knew it had been stolen. The gun had been reported stolen to the Carthage Police Department November 17.

Hendrix is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property and unlawful use of a weapon (possessing a weapon and a felony controlled substance).

Jasper County Circuit Court online records indicate Hendrix faces a burglary charge stemming from an arrest earlier this year.
