(From the City of Joplin)Building permit applications have been filed to construct a B&B Theatres luxury entertainment center in the 32nd Street Place development.
Joplin building official Bryan Wicklund confirmed that a $12 million permit was submitted for this structure along Hammons Boulevard.
The theater is part of the Woodsonia Real Estate Inc. development southeast of Range Line Avenue and 32nd Street. In addition to the theater, the 70- acre mixed use site includes a Menards home improvement and building supply store, and a 250-unit apartment complex.
Representatives with B&B Theatres and Woodsonia updated the City Council in September about the project, noting that the Joplin Theater will offer eight movie screens, heated electric reclining seats, a full bar and extended Food to Go menu, and some exclusive and innovative theatrical amenities that will be first-in-the-area.
“This development enhances Joplin with its multiple offerings,” said City Manager Nick Edwards. “We’re already experiencing positive energy as Menards gets near its openings and the apartment complex construction is being completed. Woodsonia’s investment in our community brings retail, housing, and entertainment amenities, creating a positive impact when some cities are challenged with declining growth.”
Speaking of the new development, B&B Theatres President and CEO Bob Bagby said, “Joplin is a B&B town….it just hasn’t had a B&B before! We love the Midwest and have been operating out of the Heartland for over 100 years. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Woodsonia to bring our signature approach to the magic of the movies to this wonderful community in the B&B Theatres backyard.”
Bob’s son, Brock Bagby, Executive Vice President and Chief Content & Development Officer, added, “Joplin has been a long time coming and it’s awesome to be an anchor in such an incredible and new commercial development. Woodsonia and the City of Joplin have been remarkable collaborators and the facility we’re putting up will bring the best of B&B to moviegoers in Joplin and the surrounding areas.”
City officials will review their application and schedule pre-development meetings for the project in the upcoming weeks.

This should be huge.
ReplyDeleteMenards is known for drawing a very upscale clientele.
You would be surprised at the people you see busily stuffing their 15% off paper bags.
You just described the entire town
DeleteLand Development, Business Expansion, Job Creation is Great, Larger Tax Base even Better -
ReplyDeleteAs long as Development is Not Paid for by Tif Tax Dollars - Local Tax Increment Financing (Local TIF) permits the use of a portion of local property and sales taxes to assist funding the redevelopment of certain designated areas within your community.
If Business(s) are going to be Profitable - Government - Which is the People's Tax Dollars should never have to pickup the Price for them.
TIF's are a joke. 23 years of poor bookkeeping, under the table deals, horrible legislation around oversight, and detrimental to taxing districts such as fire, ambulance, and roads.
DeleteToo bad. Now North Park Cinema will fall to rubble like so many other buildings in Joplin. Humans are so wasteful. Destroy more land and habitat, to build buildings, just to leave them empty to rot and destroy the landscape. We don't deserve nice things.
