Joplin teen charged with felony in connection with hit-and-run that killed Galena man

The Cherokee County, Kansas Prosecutor Kurt Benecke filed a felony leaving the scene of a fatality crash against Rocco Joseph, 17, Joplin, in connection with the hit-and-run accident that killed pedestrian Gary Wayne LaTurner, 60, Galena August 19.

Joseph is being charged as a juvenile.

The charge was filed following the completion earlier this month of an investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol issued the following news release the day after LaTurner was killed.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is seeking assistance from the public to identify witnesses to a hit and run fatal collision that occurred on August 19, 2023, at approximately 11:34p.m. This collision occurred on eastbound K-66 at milepost 2.9, on the western edge of the city of Galena in Cherokee County.

The collision involved a pedestrian and a 2017-2018 model of Ford Raptor truck. The truck is believed to be light in color or maroon/red.

He should be charged as an adult. Weak charge. He killed somebody.

Took 7 months to file charges. Charged with felony as a juvenile. Money can do wonderful things, if you have it. He will probably plead guilty, get probation, and have his record cleared at 18

I don't care who his parents are or how much money they have or if they use the Glades Law Firm to get his ass out of trouble again- - He needs to serve time and the family of the deceased need to civilly sue his parents and collect a judgement - if will not bring back their loved one - but Rocco Joseph - needs to understand his consequences for the life he took and did not come forward to admit it - - He needs Jail Time to think about it.

He did everyone in Galena a favor. That man was a criminal blight in the area for over 40 years.

I have to ask 9:52 AM - Why is Phil Glades a local hero - did he help keep you ass out of jail?

Or did he make more Courthouse Deals with the Local Judges and Idiot Prosecutors to put more Criminals, Drug Dealers, Alcoholics, back on our Streets - to let them hurt more people - Sounds like a Local Real Hero?

I didn't see any Hospital Wings, Public Buildings, Libraries, Art Centers, or anything else in Joplin with his Name on it -

I do find alot of donations to Political Individuals, Judges, Prosecuting Attorneys - WONDER WHY???

You Want Local Heros - Salute the Next Veteran, or Policeman, or Firefighter, or Doctor, or Nurse, or Teacher - these are the Real Heros - Not someone who puts Criminals back on the Streets to cause more Havoc on Society.

9:09 AM - I do not know Gary Wayne LaTurner, but no ones deserves to be hit by a car and then the driver-Rocco Joseph - just gets to go on with his care free life for months, never telling anyone or turning himself in - - What if that was your Family Member or Friend - How would you Feel? Justice needs to Served.

Rocco Joseph - needs to serve Time - No Deals, No Probation, Learn a Lesson in Life -

As I said - 12:42 PM - he is your Hero, because he kept your ass and others out of jail, by either a technicality or backroom deal.

I will also, bet that you have had multiple run-ins with the law, or just had not gotten caught yet - so you probably should have gotten a jail sentence - not probation or a slap on the wrist.

A lot of people are tired of Criminals getting away with their crimes. If you do the Crime then you Deserve to do the Time. Did you learn your lesson - - or are you a repeat offender?

6:54 AM and 6:56 AM - I am sure the Glades Law Firm - saved your Criminal Ass - So I will wear the Clown Moniker, if you and Glades - wear Orange Jump Suits - to Celebrate beating the Local / Yokel Justice System and keeping more Criminals on the Streets to Rob, Steal, Drive Drunk, Distribute Narcotics', and continue to harass the Citizens that always try to do the Right Things in Life...

The Glades Law Firm could care less about you Idiot - all they Care about is the $$$ Money You Pay Them - so Worship anyone / anything you want - - Especially if you are willing to Pay for it - I am sure they will take you out for lunch or invite you over to their house - NOT...

Stop being so Naïve - Criminal - You Got Lucky - Next Time and there Will Probably be a Next Time you are Off to Jail...
