Wrongful death lawsuit against Webb City police officer removed to federal court


A wrongful death lawsuit, which was originally filed in August in Jasper County Circuit Court against a Webb City police officer was removed to federal court today.

The lawsuit alleges Officer Travis Osterman accidentally tased himself, then shot and killed an unarmed man.







The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the two children of Aler Escobar, 36, who was shot and killed by Officer Travis Osterman August 5, 2021 during an altercation with Webb City Police, according to the petition. Because of a new Missouri law that went into effect August 28, 2023, Escobar's name was redacted in the petition, but there is no such law in federal court.
