The Baseball Hall of Fame's Classic Baseball Era Committee elected a former St. Louis Cardinal to the Hall today, but it wasn't Alba's Ken Boyer.
Dick Allen, who hit 34 home runs in 1970, the only season he played for the Cardinals, was elected, as was former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Dave Parker.
Boyer, who was one of the eight finalists, received less than five votes from the committee. At least 12 of the 16 committee members had to approve a former player for him to be elected.
The Boyer Brothers, from Alba, MO were all local Baseball Heros. The Boyer Family had 14-Kids, all seven boys played professional baseball. Hope Ken makes it in next time - Quite the Family Dynasty.
ReplyDeleteYes sir. I’ve heard about these guys all my life, apparently a great family as well.
DeleteThe problem is, none of the voters saw Kenny Boyer play. They don’t know how good he really was.
ReplyDeleteMost people do not realize that Clete Boyer, played third base for the Yankees with Mickey Mantle in the 1964 World Series, while his brother Ken played third base for the Cardinals. - The Boyer Brothers are a Baseball Legacy.
ReplyDeleteWe dinos know
DeleteToo bad one of our Local Videographers, doesn't put together a small documentary on the Boyer Brothers - everyone local always followed Mickey Mantle who was born in Spavinaw, Oklahoma and grew up in Commerce, Oklahoma and played for the Joplin Minors, a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees, at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin. Mantle was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974, but the Boyer Brothers lived just 16-miles outside of Joplin - and have been relegated to a lesser stance even though they played alongside some of the greatest players in the history of baseball.
