A medical resident who was injured when she slipped on a wet spot on the stairs leading to the cafeteria is suing Freeman Health for negligence.
In the lawsuit, Rebecca Centeno alleges the hazardous area was unmarked.
From the petition:
On or about April 30, 2025, Plaintiff Rebecca Centeno was a medical resident at Freeman West Central Hospital. As Plaintiff was walking down the stairs leading toward the hospital’s cafeteria and dining hall, she slipped on the unmarked wet stairs/flooring.Plaintiff fell violently to the ground and landed on her right upper extremity, causing severe injuries to Plaintiff’s right wrist, including a carpal bone fracture.
The wet stairs and flooring constituted a dangerous and hazardous condition for anyone walking up or down the staircase located in the hospital’s common area.
Defendant provided no warning or indication of the wet stairs/flooring.
Centeno, who is represented by Charles J. Sticklen of the Sticklen & Sticklen Law Firm of Joplin, is suing for negligence and premises liability and ia asking for "fair and reasonable damages" and costs.

Those stairs have always been bad , not wide enough for people meeting on them coming and going ,.. need to redo them , my opinion
Did Rebecca Centeno, have the right shoes, her job would require her to be around all types of fluids on the floors, etc., does she need her student loans paid for? You can see her on FB, TikTok, and Instagram - Recent 2026 Graduate from KCU - If someone else spilt fluid on the stairs or if John-Q-Public did - how can any business monitor every hallway, every room, every and all stairs, ever elevator, etc., - and yes, they are a business just like any other business - how can we stop these Slip and Fall Lawsuits - Notify everyone with a Sign before they enter a Business - Enter at your Own Risk, Floors are always Wet, What can any Business do to Stop these Lawsuits? You cannot have Janitors on every floor, every room, every hallway, every stairs, every elevator - - 24/7 - - when do we heed - "Common Sense", "Personal Responsibility", Why do we need to Monitor everything to Protect a Business - AND FOR GOSH SAKES - DO NOT TELL ME THAT IS WHAT INSURANCE IS FOR - - WHO DO YOU THINK HAS TO PAY FOR THAT - IT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE TO RUN THE BUSINESS - AND WHEN A SLIP AND FALL - HAPPENS - YOUR INSURANCE COSTS GOES UP!!!
A Freeman medical resident would know better than the average person just how unaffordable medical care is.
Do we need to Post Signs Everywhere to Reduce Potential Lawsuits:
Stairs may be Slippery.
Floors may be Slippery.
Sidewalks may be Slippery.
Parking Lots may be Slippery.
Coffee May be Hot.
7:01AM, I am familiar with those stairs. I am also familiar with the average size of the majority of the people that work at Hospitals - the majority of them should all be on GLP-1. It is always funny that those that are giving advice on and servicing others on Health are overweight and add onto that about 16% of Health care workers Smoke.
If you had to puit up with the average patient you'd be inge eating and smoking something too! Let's not even talk abvout unreasonable family members and visitors!
5:20PM, Sounds like a typical Day at any Fast Food Restaurant, where Customers are Hitting, Swearing, Throwing Food, Fights Breaking Out - and these are with Poor Hourly Workers, the majority of them are just Teenagers, trying to do their Jobs with no Special Training!
Yes, every business does this for insurance purposes.
