A malpractice lawsuit filed Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court alleges a neonatal nurse practitioner botched a circumcision.
According to the petition, after the circumcision on October 16, 2025, the child had to be taken to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for reattachment of a portion of the organ that had been inadvertently cut off.
The lawsuit alleges malpractice, negligence and inadequate training.
Listed as defendants are Mercy Joplin and the neonatal nurse practitioner. The plaintiff is the child's mother, representing his interests.
The plaintiff, who is represented by Scott Vorhees of the Joplin firm of Johnson, Vorhees and Martucci, is asking for damages and demanding a jury trial.
