KOAM's morning, noon, 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m.newscasts beat KSNF and KODE combined in the July Nielsen ratings.
The report also included good news for KODE, which drew more viewers than its sister station KSNF at 5 and 6 p.m. and drew even at 10 p.m., and for KFJX which drew more viewers for its 9 p.m. newscast than either KODE or KSNF drew at 10 p.m.
The number of viewers for each time period is listed below:
6 a.m.-7 a.m. KOAM 9,000, KSNF 4,000, KODE 3,000
Noon- KOAM 15,000 KODE (All My Children) 4,000 KSNF 3,000
5 p.m.- KOAM 21,000, KODE 8,000, KSNF 6,000
6 p.m.- KOAM 27,000, KODE 10,000 KSNF 8,000
9 p.m. KFJX 11,000
10 p.m.- KOAM 28,000, KODE 9,000, KSNF 9,000
In the 6:30 p.m. timeslot, KFJX's reruns of CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men drew as many viewers, 11,000 as KODE's Entertainment Tonight 6,000, and KSNF's Deal or No Deal 5,000 combined.
The viewers of all three of those programs, however, fell 9,000 viewers behind the 31,000 who watched KOAM's longtime favorite Wheel of Fortune.

The fact is, for KSN to be beat by a 9pm show on a nontraditional network is a sign that something is wrong.
Management has slowly gotten worse over the last few years, and so has the news product. The station needs a change of regime in a bad way. It needs someone who has been somewhere else, who has the drive to get NEWS on the air. The station needs to get professional about what it is doing. Viewers have grown tired of the antics and lack of quality, and it shows in the ratings.
Sadly, Nexstar is too brainwashed to see that something is wrong here...and when they do realize it, it will be very, very late in the game. The swift kick in the a$$ that it deserves now, will be too late then.
I have a different take on the previous post. I don't consider FOX a non-traditional network. If there was a non-traditional network, it might well be the new NBC who starts running late night show host Jay Leno at 9pm central. Pretty non-traditional as far as ABC and CBS go. The real problem looks to me to be that they deliver about 1/3 the audience of KOAM. When you take the people watching late local news, about 6 out of ten choose KOAM, 2 out of ten choose KODE and 2 out of ten choose KSN. When 8 out of ten viewers who are watching choose not to watch you, you have an 80% dis-approval rating. Now that is a problem!
Here's a completly new perspective. FOX-14 has been around about 6 years. In that time they have failed to surpass KOAM, but have surpassed both KODE and KSN. I think KODE has a 50+ year heritage and KSN a 40+ year heritage. How does the new kid on the block do so well at 9pm but more importantly, do so well in the syndication world at 6:30? There does seem to be a disconnect in the operation of KODE and KSN. On a high note, KODE was once the leader, and at least they are proving they out-do at least their sister station KSN, who seems to finish if not last, tied for last. I'm guessing the folks at Nexstar should try to copy KODE instead of presuming KSN sets the standard. The only standard they set is the low bar. Kudo's to KODE for beating KSN.
KODE has improved a lot over the last few months.
I find it odd that being 54 years old I have never received a Nielsen book, nor have I ever known a person who has received one. How accurate can it be if that is the case? And do people really fill them out correctly? I am not sure how reliable this whole system is.
What were the weekend ratings like Randy?
Lets not forget that KSN was off the air for a month, During that time I'm sure a lot of viewers switched to KODE and KOAM.
November may be a different story.
KSN was off briefly in May, NOT July. Memory is a terrible thing to waste.
Just because it's the "July book" doesn't mean July was the only month measured. Take a look at the dates on the report. Memory is a precious commodity. Apparently, arrogance is not.
The dates of the July report were July 2nd through July 29th. Do you have a point? Are you contending any station was off the air during this period.
