Willard man charged with sex trafficking, enticement

A Willard man is being held without bond in the Jasper County Detention Center on enticement of a child and sexual trafficking charges after allegedly arranging to have sex with someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl.

Shawn Alan Patterson (DOB 1983) was arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office after arriving at Casey's General Store in Webb City, according to the probable cause statement.

On August 18, 2026, law enforcement conducted an undercover operation utilizing SkipTheGames.com, during which Shawn Patterson communicated with an undercover law enforcement officer whom Shawn believed to be a 15-year-old female offering sexual services in exchange for money. Shawn utilized two separate telephone numbers during communications.

During the conversation, Patterson discussed several sexual acts he was interested in paying for, according to the statement.

Shawn was specifically informed that the person he was communicating with was 15 years old.

Shawn initially responded, “15? I’m out,” demonstrating that he understood the represented age.

Shawn subsequently reengaged in the conversation, requested a photograph, continued discussing and arranging an in-person meeting, confirmed that he wanted “full service,” discussed whether condoms were necessary, requested the meeting location, and asked where they could go that was secluded enough.

Shawn ultimately traveled to the predetermined meeting location at Casey’s, located at 1525 S. Madison Street in Webb City. Prior to arriving, the undercover officer requested a yellow, RedBull energy drink. Shawn entered Casey’s, purchased the requested drink, and was detained after exiting the store. Shawn was also found in possession of cash with $100-dollars being in the sunglass visor and $14-dollars being in his wallet on his person.

During the interview and after Miranda was verbally given to him, Shawn acknowledged continuing the communications after being informed of the represented age and described his actions as a “bad
judgment call.”

When confronted with the content of the communications, Shawn stated, “It sounds like I’m gonna meet up and have sex with her.”

When asked why he continued with the encounter, Shawn stated that he worked long hours, frequently traveled between approximately 1,000 and 1,200 miles per week, and was often alone while working.

Shawn stated that his wife hardly touched him and that they had only been sexually intimate approximately one time during the previous eight months.

Based upon the totality of the investigation, there is probable cause to believe Shawn Patterson knowingly communicated with, enticed, and arranged to meet a person he believed to be 15 years
old for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct in exchange for something of value, and took
substantial steps toward completing the arranged commercial sexual encounter.

Patterson's arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning.
