Baker, concerned when he heard Gardner might be considering charges against the McCloskeys, sent her a stern letter July 13, demanding her immediate resignation.
While others might have quaked in fear at the thought that one of southwest Missouri's most powerful legislators was extending his sphere of influence to St. Louis, Kim Gardner stood her ground.
It certainly couldn't have been easy.
After all, Baker invoked the name Eric Greitens in the beginning of his message to show he meant business.
"In light of your unlawful handling of the Governor Greitens case and now recent actions as St. Louis Circuit Attorney, I am asking for your immediate resignation."
He recounted the list of sins committed by the prosecutor- not handling criminal cases sent to her by the St. Louis Police Department, not throwing the book at protesters and though he left it unmentioned, there could be no doubt he was aware Gardner has yet to arrest any crossdressers at local libraries.
"Your record is permanently tarnished from making activist decisions based upon a political agenda, rather than by law."
"Ms. Gardner, you must be held accountable to the people for your actions and so it is only right that when you have failed to keep your oath of office to uphold the law, that you should resign immediately," he said, concluding his letter.
Baker's stern warning came only four days after the former Neosho mayor made an appearance at the Neosho City Council meeting and issued a warning.
"You work for us, not the other way around," Baker said, shocked that the council was considering taking steps to stress social distancing and limit gatherings to 15 or less to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, which has hit Neosho hard.
The council backed down, opened up the community and thanked God that Baker had not sent them a stern letter.
