Felony stealing charges were filed Wednesday in Newton County Circuit Court against the manager of the Dollar General store at 17451 Highway Y in Neosho.
Derek Wayne Cullum (DOB 1984), Neosho, allegedly stole $18,670.13 and blew it all at Indigo Sky Casino.
The charges against Cullum were filed following an internal investigation that indicated Cullum failed to make bank deposits between March 10 and March 18. A check with the bank determined with deposits had not been made.
I made contact with Cullum, where he was Mirandized on a recorded body camera
and he confirmed that he was robbed. I arrested him for stealing, and he was
transported to the Newton County Jail.
Once inside the Jail, Cullum eventually confessed to myself and Sgt. Cabrera on
recorded body cam, after Miranda rights, that he did in fact gamble all the
money at the Indigo Casino over the course of the Month of March.
The probable cause statement indicates Cullum initially told Newton County Sheriff's Office investigators he had been robbed, then was placed under arrest.
From the probable cause statement:
Once inside the Jail, Cullum eventually confessed to myself and Sgt. Cabrera on recorded body cam, after Miranda rights, that he did in fact gamble all the money at the Indigo Casino over the course of the Month of March.
Cullum's bond was set $3,500 cash or surety.
Dude went all in
ReplyDeleteWow - $18K, is a lot of money stolen by Derek Cullum, to just Gamble away in a one-months' time. There has been so many people locally stealing from Non-Profits, Banks, and Businesses to feed their Gambling Habits. Companies need to make sure they have internal auditing and checks and balances in place so they can Stop fraudulent theft on a quicker basis.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday people will learn there is no quick way to become wealthy and taking shortcuts through Criminal Actions will only lead to their downfall. They will need to make him serve jail time and repay what he stole for his Crime, and hopefully this Dollar General Store is insured against fraudulent thefts and loses.
Had he won he would've paid it back. Go easy on the guy.
