Domino's plans fundraiser for Braxton Thrasher, 17, critically injured in hit-and-run accident

Carthage Domino's will hold a fundraiser December 11 for employee Braxton Thrasher, 17, who was hit and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver while on his moped November 30.

Twenty-five percent of the money from all Domino's orders that day will be donated to Braxton's family to help pay for its expenses. Braxton remains in critical condition at a Springfield hospital.

The driver who allegedly hit Braxton, Miguel Gaspar-Diaz has been charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence and is being held in the Jasper County Jail on no bond for the charges related to the accident and on an ICE warrant.

Some people think it's sad that people in the community have to donate money to a fundraiser so this kid's medical expenses can be paid for.

9:58AM - That is what people do they step up and help others. The Great Obamacare - Was Not that Great - Not everyone today can afford Insurance. Even when you have Insurance - they can Deny your Claims and don't forget the $10K to $20K Plus Out-Of-Pocket Deductible is ridiculous.

The best way to avoid having your health insurance claim denied is not having health insurance!

"You know, before we all started having health care, in the olden days our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor, they would say I’ll paint your house," she said. "I mean, that’s the old days of what people would do to get health care with your doctors. Doctors are very sympathetic people. I’m not backing down from that system."

9:58 yeah it’s almost like he got hit by a drunk that has no license or insurance. Seriously… are you related to the driver

1:06PM - The days of Gunsmoke and Doc Adams are gone - the problem today is that Doctors, work for Hospitals, Clinics, Groups, Etc., they are all Financially Driven and are in Business to make a Profit. Plus, they all work Hand-In-Hand with the Insurance Companies - which I am sure will be the reason the Gunman Shot the CEO, Brian Thompson, of UnitedHealthCare - with the “deny,” “defend” and “depose” found emblazoned on the ammunition, echoing a phrase used by insurance industry critics.

Go to any Hospital, Clinic, or Doctors Group - and the FIRST THING - they will ask what is the Name of your Insurance Company, Group Number, ID Number - Not if you can Paint their House or you have Chicken or Cow?

Then if your Insurance Company doesn't cover the Bills or Deny some Charges then they will send you a 30-Day Demand Notice to Pay the Balances / Bills. If you cannot Pay the Bills, they then will take you to Court to Garnish your Wages or Bank Accounts - Does that sound - SYMPATHETIC TO YOU?

Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the United States, accounting for 66.5% of all bankruptcies. This is due to unexpected accidents or illnesses that can lead to extensive medical bills.

If you can afford Healthcare - You are Fortunate - in the first quarter of 2024, 27.1 million people in the United States were uninsured, which is 8.2% of the population. This is a slight increase from 2023.

The percentage of Americans covered by the Medicaid (Low Income) public health insurance plan increased from 17.8 percent in 2020 to around 18.9 percent in 2023.

HealthCare and Insurance Costs will be one of the Largest Financial Burdens for Families going into the Future - -

There'e even an online calculator that converts a medical procedure you might need to a number of chickens.

Can we focus on Braxton Thrasher, who is in the Hospital fighting for his life, because he was hit by a car driven by another Illegal Alien, who left the scene of an accident just for him to die. Braxton needs our Support and Prayers.

The focus of this should be Braxton Thrasher and his family only! Instead, it’s being used as a place for all you political extremists to whine. What an embarrassment! Focus on this sweet boy instead of your delusions.

Yes, Domino's is doing a very nice thing to support the Thrasher Family - Prayers for Braxton for a quick recovery.

What some fail to realize is that some healthcare insurance companies have a monopoly in their handling of a claim: they own the facility (hospital or clinic), they own the provider's business, they own the Healthcare insurance policy, and they own pharmacies where prescriptions are filled.

Their efforts are not altruistic in scope; it's all done to extract the highest number of dollars from the system for the benefit of their shareholders and themselves.

Denying care under a healthcare plan that rightfully calls for the targeted plan of action is another tool to extract value for their stakeholders.

Don't blame Domino's for this.; the blame lies entirely on the shoulders of the person being held in jail with no posted bond. Motor vehicular laws were broken and this young man could have lost his life. Instead, he's got a long road to recovery. By purchasing food from the Domino's fundraiser, the community has given financial support that speaks of their willingness to walk his path to recovery alongside him. Let's never lost sight of this side of our humanity.
