At one point in the investigation into the murder of 9-year-old Triway Elementary fourth grader Rowan Ford in November 2007, two men confessed to their involvement in the girl's rape and murder.
One of those men, Chris Collings, 49, was executed earlier this evening in Bonne Terre.
The other man, Rowan Ford's stepfather, David Spears, after serving time on reduce charges of felony child endangerment and hindering prosecution, has been receiving taxpayer money for the past eight years working for the Missouri State Public Defender's office, according to a report today from KSNF/KODE.
The report said Spears was on probation when he was initially hired by the husband of his attorney.
KSN tracked him down but was unable to get Spears to go on the record.
We reached out to David Spears at the Public Defender’s Office in West Plains today to ask if he had a comment about Chris Collings’ execution and he said, “Ma’am, you called me at work. I have no comment. Please don’t call my place of work again.”According to the Missouri Blue Book for 2023-2024, Spears receives an annual salary of $40,288.

Should still be in jail….this is insane
Ooops!
That probably was supposed to remain on the down low.
What about Joplin Police Sniper One who shot and killed a toddler outside his jurisdiction in another state… since Sniper Ones slaughtering of a toddler the police chief, prosecutor, and sheriff have all resigned. Not Sniper One, he was promoted.
Why would he need to plead for a lesser sentence. He already plead guilty. He said he did it. They both did. IWhat's up with him getting special treatment. If anything he should have gotten the death chair. She knew him. She trusted him. It just makes me wonder if he has done things like this before. It wasn't hard for him to go with the plan.We haven't heard the full story on him. There is still dirt on him.Someone is covering something up for him.He should have put down just like his sick co partner.
This is the second time I’ve seen something about this. Where can I read about it?
I wouldike the information as well.
No surprise. The Public defenders office doesn’t believe any of their clients are guilty.
