Filing dates set for Carthage city offices

In accordance with Chapter 115 of the Laws of Missouri and Article IV & Article VIII of the Home Rule Charter of the City of Carthage, notice is hereby given that there shall be elected the following city officials at the General Election to be held April 7, 2026: 

Mayor to serve a four- year term; 

One Council Member from each of the five wards to serve two-year terms, and

One Council Member from Ward 1 to serve a one-year term.

Requirements for position of Mayor are at least 30 years of age, a citizen of the United States and an inhabitant of the City for two years next preceding his or her election, and a resident, at the time he or she files and during the time he or she serves.

Requirements for position of council member are at least 21 years of age prior to taking office, a citizen of the United States, an inhabitant of the City for one year next preceding his or her election, and a resident, at the time he or she files and during the time he or she serves, of the ward from which he or she is elected

A photo ID will be required for all candidates.

Those persons wishing to be designated on the ballot as a candidate shall file their declaration of candidacy in the office of the City Clerk, no sooner than Tuesday, December 9, 2025 beginning at 8:00 A.M. The last day to file is December 30, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. 

In addition to weekends, the offices will be closed December 24 and December 25, 2025.

Petitions for Nomination of Candidates are available in the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 326 Grant, Carthage, Missouri. Applications should be accompanied by submitting $25.00 or a petition with 25 signatures from registered voters from the ward represented.
