State auditor begins investigation into nearly $200,000 in missing funds in Goodman

Goodman Police Chief Mike Akins is asking the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Missouri State Auditor's office to investigate nearly $200,000 in missing city money.

"That kind of money doesn't just disappear, and with nobody wanting to speak out about it and try to find it, to me it seems as though it's trying to be covered," Akins said, according to an account in the McDonald County Press.

The Goodman Board of Aldermen delayed passing next year's budget until more information is available about the missing funds.

The state auditor's investigation has reportedly already begun.

Under a new law passed by the Missouri State Legislature, if a state audit is launched following an investigation into improper governmental activity, the cost of the audit is paid by the auditors's office.
