Joplin to celebrate reopening of Ewert Park

(From the City of Joplin)

After months of renovations, a reopening celebration for Joplin’s historic Ewert Park has been scheduled for Thursday, December 17.The event will begin at 2 p.m.

Ewert Park, one of the City’s oldest and most beloved locations for its rich history and cultural significance, has undergone major upgrades over the past year. When it reopens in December, it will feature all-new amenities including the City’s first Splash Park with an Ice Ribbon (an ice-skating facility), a new playground designed for ADA accessibility, covered basketball/pickleball courts with an amphitheater, and interpretive signage highlighting the park’s history.

“Revitalizing Ewert Park has been an important project, not only in terms of bringing new recreation offerings to Joplin but also because we have been working with such a meaningful location in the City’s history,” said Parks and Recreation Director Paul Bloomberg. “It was important to make sure it was done right.”

The $9.97 million Ewert Park renovation is the top project in the list of Phase III Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax projects, which was approved in 2021. The City also applied a portion of Use Tax revenue which had been earmarked for beautification efforts.
