Lawyers for former McDonald County sheriff candidate and Seneca police officer Randy Hance are asking for more time to file pretrial motions. Hance's trial on federal weapons charges is scheduled for August.
Springfield attorneys Shawn Askinosie and Stacie Bilyeu, in papers filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, asked the court to allow them to have until May 27 to file motions.
This is the third delay the Hance defense team has asked for. The last order, issued Feb. 25, pushed the deadline back to April 18.
The motion indicated that discovery has only recently been completed and several issues "may require a greater than normal amount of time to adequately brief and research."
Hance is being held in jail in Springfield without bond, as a result of threats he allegedly made to kill his ex-wife and himself.
