A Webb City businessman supposedly set fire to his business and to another place he owns early this morning, and at last word, was holed up in a standoff with area law enforcement. This was a story made for local television, and the three local stations came through big time with their 10 p.m. newscasts.
KSN appeared to devote more of its newscast to the fires and standoff than the other stations and made a couple of decisions that paid off big time. One was digging up footage of an interview Brad Douglas did with the alleged arsonist in 2001.
The second move, one that KSN has done a few times recently and it has paid off each time, has been dispatching co-anchor Tiffany Alaniz to do on-the-spot reporting. Ms. Alaniz has a solid reporting background and from an article I read about her several months ago in one of those magazines that Liberty Group Publishing publishes, she apparently had serious reservations about giving up reporting for anchoring.
She delivered a polished, professional report.
Polished, professional reports are what we expect from KOAM and as usual, the top rated news department in the four states delivered, thanks to solid reporting from Jared Clark.
Alan Cavanna also came through for KODE, but his need to keep referring to his notes during his standup was a little disconcerting. (That being said, I appreciate a reporter making sure that he was delivering accurate information.)
