The body of Joplin soldier killed in Afghanistan returned to U. S.

The remains of Sgt. Edward Dixon III, a Joplin native, were returned to the United States Tuesday.

Dixon, a soldier stationed with the 4th Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Baumholder, Germany, was killed Saturday in Afghanistan in a vehicle accident.


Sgt. Dixon was formerly stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base as an Airman in 2003. In 2004 he transferred to the Army through the ‘Blue-to-Green' program.
