The Joplin Globe hasn't endorsed anyone for president since 2016, according to a column in today's paper by Editor Andy Ostmeyer, and it doesn't plan to do so this year.
Oddly, Ostmeyer fails to mention what many of his readers think was the worst presidential endorsement- the Globe's 2008 stamp of approval for Barack Obama.
Sixteen years have passed since that editorial, but I still see people cursing the Globe for that endorsement and saying that was when they dropped their subscriptions. Others have said it was the beginning of the slow, torturous downfall of the newspaper, which in recent years has since a shrinking of its news coverage and coverage area, the loss of approximately 75 percent of its subscriptions, and its reduction of its reporting staff to a skeleton crew.
The Globe also suffered from the disease of chain ownership, which has dealt the death knell for many newspapers, including the Carthage Press. Instead of adding value to their product, chain ownership has consistently increased profit margin through cuts, something that inevitably weakens the product.
Getting back to presidential endorsements, if memory serves correctly, whether it was disappointment in President Obama's first four years or an aversion to losing more readers, the Globe reversed course in 2012 and endorsed Mitt Romney.
Ostmeyer's article says the Globe's final endorsement came in 2016.

I am firm believer in that I do Not believe that News Organization and Media Outlets should endorse Presidential Candidates. This shows biases and if any group should be neutral - the True News Organization and Media Outlets should be free of that. If they want to make Comments let them use the Editorials or Comments Page, and not the Front Page to try and sway Voters.

Gannett, owner of the nation’s largest newspaper chain, announced that its more than 200 publications, including USA Today, will not publish presidential endorsements in the run-up to the November 5 election.
That is one thing I have never understood. Journalism should be fair, factual and unbiased. Anything else is agenda, activism and opinion. Which is pretty much what our mainstream media is, on BOTH sides.

Additionally, I no longer conduct business with merchants or services who blatantly campaign for maga candidates. How could anyone trust any vendor or service (doctor, banker, teacher, insurance agent, auto repair, etc) who demonstates such poor judgement to be hoodwinked by a known mentally ill felon and liar and then sell their soul for the sake of division and destruction of the constitution? You know who you are and you just lost my business.
11:40AM - It has been a standard in Journalism for well over 100 years, that Newspapers have been endorsing their Candidates - well before Fox News, MSNBC, Trump, or Harris which could clearly sway their readers. This was completely Unethical, but it was done - it is just this year that Newspapers have figured out that their pasts policies on Political endorsements were Unethical. Yet, doing the Right Thing, has caused Staff Resignations and for them to Loss Subscribers - What does that tell you about the Ethics of the General Public.

4:38PM, I did not see the original advertisement either, but through the ability to read, learn, and understand the knowledge that is available to me I was able to further my education of the world's historical and political happenings even if I was not old enough to have experienced the actual events. So, you just learned a valuable lesson that occurred in History and with the advancement of Television, Internet, and Streaming Services maybe you should spend more time educating yourself on World History and Politics - So you do not end up a "Daisy" too - Gertrude. If you start reading between the lines and open up your mind and join in you may find that knowledge comes from the strangest places, instead of excluding yourself.
