Sheriffs endorse Jack Goodman for Congress

Jasper County Sheriff Archie Dunn and Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland are among those endorsing the Seventh District Congressional candidacy of Jack Goodman. The news release follows:

Today, Jack Goodman announced the endorsement of all Republican Sheriffs in the 7th Congressional District, adding even more momentum to his campaign as the August 3 Primary Election nears.

“As a former prosecutor and someone who has dedicated my public service to strengthening our laws for our families, I am humbled to have the endorsement of so many sheriffs who enforce those laws and keep our communities safe,” said Goodman.

The endorsement includes the Sheriffs from: Barry, Christian, Greene, Jasper, Lawrence, Newton, Polk, Stone, and Taney counties.

Goodman has already been endorsed by a majority of the state representatives and over 50 county elected officials in the MO-7th, Missourians United For Life (with distinction), Springfield Firefighters Association, the Southern Missouri Professional Firefighters Association, and the Missouri State Council of Firefighters, The Springfield News-Leader, and The Ozarks Sentinel.

McDonald County Republican candidate lost his sheriff election by 8 votes, a 9 vote swing and Goodman would be endorsed by EVERY Sheriff in the county!

Why would a dumb sheriff stick his neck out to endorse anyone. They best keep their endorsements to themselves. I believe Archie Dunn was a Highway Patrolman in the past. Wonder why he quit that job?
Did he retire early seeking other opportunities?

The sheriffs have a local, informal association formed for the purpose of getting together to discuss law enforcement issues and solve problems with thieves and criminals operating throughout Southwest Missouri.

A good idea. We expect the sheriffs to do this as part of their jobs.

But, Jack Meritt, while sheriff of Greene County, led the sheriffs to become a political group to flex political muscle for more funding and influence in Jefferson City; to push for more money from county budgets; and to stick their noses into legislative races on the state and federal levels.

What's up with that. I want my sheriff to concentrate on the second shot, after the politically correct warning shot.
