Four COVID-19 deaths reported in Joplin, all six deaths to date were Spring River Christian Village residents

 

The Joplin Health Department announced four COVID-19-related deaths today.

All six of the city's deaths to date have been residents of Spring River Christian Village.

Nine more coronavirus cases were confirmed within the past 24 hours, according to statistics posted by the Health Department this morning to the city's COVID-19 dashboard.

Seven people are currently hospitalized, with 63 people under isolation.

The Health Department's news release on the four deaths is printed below:

The Joplin Health Department is sad to report the deaths of four Joplin residents. Coronavirus was a significant condition contributing to these deaths. 

The four individuals were female, ages 91, 84, 81, and 76. All were residents of Spring River Christian Village, a long-term care facility in Joplin. 

Three of these deaths were previously reported by Spring River Christian Village. The most recent death was a 76-year-old female resident.

The management of the facility has been working closely with the Joplin Health Department, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Section for Long Term Care and recently had all their staff and residents tested for the virus. The situation continues to be monitored closely.

Deaths are reported by the Joplin Health Department after it has been officially confirmed with the county coroner’s office and the medical examiner that COVID-19 has been determined to be a contributing factor. Until that confirmation is made, these deaths cannot be reported on the Joplin’s COVID-19 dashboard found at www.joplinmo.org/coronavirus . Statistics on the dashboard are updated by noon Monday through Friday. Because of this process, there may be a lag between when the deaths occur and when they are reported to the public.
