The Barry County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Monett man with assault, armed criminal action and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child following an incident at the South Park Soccer Fields in Monett Monday.
Oukham Yang (DOB 1986) is being held without bond in the Monett Jail, after allegedly threatening to kill his ex-wife's boyfriend in front of the children.
From the probable cause statement:
During a verbal argument between Yang's former spouse and her boyfriend, Victim 1, Yang retrieved a tan Smith and Wesson M&P .40 caliber pistol from his vehicle, pointed the firearm at Victim 1 approximately eight times and threatened to kill him.
Yang used the butt of the pistol to strike Victim 1 on the right side of {his} neck. This strike caused a contusion to Victim 1's neck.
The situation escalated as the children became involved, according to the probable cause statement.
Yang brought three minor children, Victim 2, Victim and Victim 4 with him to this altercation. During the altercation, Yang, Victim 1 and Witness 1 {the ex-wife} were fighting over the gun. During this struggle, Victim 2 gained control of the pistol and threatened to kill themselves in an attempt to get the adults to keep stop fighting.
Victim 3 and Victim 4 were in the backseat of Yang's car within 10 feet of this altercation. The pistol had a round in the chamber and was ready to fire. Yang knowingly displayed a pistol that led to a fight for control of the gun. This struggle could have easily resulted in an unintentional discharge in any direction, including towards Victims 2, 3 or 4.

If I read this correctly...dude, his ex and her boyfriend were all fighting over a loaded handgun, and somehow a child was the one who ended up with it, where as the child then pointed it at his or her own head? I hope whatever state funded councilor the kid ends up with takes it seriously
