The Joplin City Council will hold a work session at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7 in the Council Chambers. The discussion will include potential code changes for a possible moratorium on certain types of construction within the area affected by the EF-5 tornado on May 22, 2011.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to hear the discussion and provide input, as Council requests.
Council Chambers are located on 5th floor of City Hall, 602 South Main.

I have read the Joplin Globe's article on mandating storm shelters, and see it did not pass. I have an idea that may change that. My idea is to put one storm shelter on every block at the discretion of the residents on each city block. If a cost can be figured on,then divide the cost between the number of residents on the block willing to participate, and give a period of time, like six months for everyone to pay it off, and put the one storm shelter under the side of the road, sort of like the rain drainage grates that are on every block, but maybe on the other side, and that way it won't be every home being built must have a storm shelter, but it will give the option for us as joplinites to feel secure during tornado season, and not feel we have no options for a completely secure space to be during the storms. I think this is a pretty good solution that covers very many concerns we all have been having.
