Felony child abuse charges were filed today against a Carthage man who allegedly left noticeable hand marks on his children while administering punishment Sunday.
The Carthage Police Department investigation after Carthage R-9 staff reported the school's resource officer the extent of the bruises James Allen Landes (DOB 1996) left on his daughter and stepdaughter.
From the probable cause statement:
During a subsequent forensic interview with juvenile victim 1, she disclosed her stepfather James LANDES spanked her leaving large hand-shaped bruises on her buttocks, thigh, and back.An exam was conducted on juvenile victim 1 at the Children’s Center. The exam revealed a large hand-shaped bruise on her left thigh, mid-back, and buttocks. These injuries were documented as consistent with signs of abuse, and corroborated juvenile victim 1's version of events.
During a subsequent forensic interview with juvenile victim 2, she disclosed her biological father James LANDES spanked her on the buttocks and slapped her on the face. An exam was conducted on juvenile victim 2 at the Children’s Center. The exam revealed, bruising to her buttocks and face along with a laceration in her mouth.
These injuries were documented as consistent with signs of abuse, and corroborated juvenile victim 2's version of events.
During a subsequent interview with James LANDES, he corroborated the juvenile victim(s) version of events. He admitted to hitting his children and inflicting the injuries on them. He made the statement in the interview if he inflicted the injuries on the children he deserved to be in jail.
Judge Joseph Hensley set Landes' bond at $7,500- $5,000 surety and $2,500 bond with the stipulation that he not have any contact with anyone under age 18 and with the alleged victims "direct or indirect, through any manner or medium."

He should do Time for his Heinous Actions - Thank Goodness that Others Recognized that these Children were being Abused - - What about the Mother - If she was Complacent - She should also, be Charged.
Their are NO EXCUSES FOR THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR - - I Hope these Children get the Needed Help and Counseling - and are able to Someday have Normal Lives where they are Loved and Appreciated.
As a Community / Society - Our Local Judges, Prosecuting Attorneys, and Jurors - Need to send a Message to Criminals - We are No Longer going to except Your Bad Behavior.
No More Slaps On the Wrist and Get Out of Jail Free Cards, No More Backroom Courthouse Deals, No More Probation - - We have got to get Tough on Criminals.
James Allen Landes - Should Never be Allowed to be around these or other Children - - and If their Mother or their Grandparents - have any Sense or Moral Compass - they need to make sure that they NEVER allow him Near them again...

I have raised some great kids that are self sufficient and don’t need anything but love from me. And they are raising great kids on their own.
If you’re raising your grandkids, you didn’t raise your kids right, don’t screw up another set trying to fix it.

Children have been Whipped, Beaten, and Killed - by People using this Scripture - - as a Means to Doing the Wrong Thing in the Name of God.
If it’s done in anger that’s wrong. that applies to so many things in life.
If it’s done for love that also applies to so many things in life.

Well I would say that our Society is getting more Angry, More Violent, More Aggressive - NOT LOVING - this is Not what God wants - But this is what is Happening - - and this Anger can easily be applied and displaced on to our Children.
According to a poll taken just before the pandemic, 84% of people think Americans are angrier than a generation before and 42% admitted that they themselves were angrier.
So how does this Play Out - - So before you ever displace your Anger on any Child - Step Back and Realize that this could cause everlasting Trauma and it has been Proven - that your Actions could cause - this Child Anger Issues that they Turn-Around and Displace on Others and eventually on their own Children.
