A grand jury indictment of a Seneca man for being a felon in possession of a firearm was unsealed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
According to a detention motion filed today, Leslie Vinson Eads, 47, was arrested by the Newton County Sheriff's Office September 11, 2025 following a traffic stop.
If this case were to go to trial, the evidence would be that on September 11, 2025, Newton County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office (“NCSO”) deputies stopped a vehicle being operated by the defendant andoccupied by a female passenger.
During the traffic stop, the NCSO deputy observed the female making furtive movements underneath a blanket and observed the defendant reaching towards the vehicle’s door pockets repeatedly. The individuals were both asked to step out of the vehicle for officer safety; while outside the vehicle, the NCSO deputy observed what appeared to be a methamphetamine pipe in the center console of the vehicle.
A consent search was granted, and the deputy could no longer locate the methamphetamine pipe, which the female had snuck inside herself.
The NCSO deputy was informed by the defendant that there were multiple baggies and a firearm in the vehicle, with the defendant claiming that his friend had left the firearm. The NCSO deputy located a backpack, which contained the firearm charged in the indictment, along with two digital scales with a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, and a baggie of purported methamphetamine.
The defendant admitted that he was a convicted felon and unable to legally possess firearms.
