May 21 arraignment set for man accused of Joplin Tornado fraud

A 10 a.m. May 21 arraignment and scheduling hearing is on tap for a man accused of trying to fraudulently receive FEMA benefits following the Joplin tornado

The indictment, filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, indicates Shane Ellis, 37, claimed he lived in a home at 2115 Virginia that was hit by the May 22 tornado, when, in fact, that was not his residence.

Ellis is charged with single counts of disaster fraud and making false statements.

He was released on a personal recognizance bond.
