Probable cause statement: Webb City teacher had 3-month sexual relationship with student

An after-hours sex act with an 18-year-old high school student led to criminal charges being filed Tuesday against former Webb City High School choir instructor Carrie Njoroge, according to a probable cause statement filed in Jasper County Circuit Court.

The act allegedly took place Tuesday, April 15, in her office at the school. Two days later, school officials placed her on paid administrative leave. She resigned the following day, according to a statement from the school district.

The probable cause statement says that April 15 was not the first time Mrs. Njorege had sex with the student. He says that the relationship began three months earlier.

The probable cause statement, written by Webb City Police Department Cpl. Josh Smith, is printed below:

On April 15, 2014, between the hours of 19:30 and 21:30 hours at 621 N. Madison, Webb City, Jasper County, Missouri, 64870 (Webb City High School), Carrie Njoroge, a Webb City High School choir teacher, had consensual sexual intercourse with an 18-year-old male student in her office. The student stated they participated in an ongoing relationship for approximately three months involving oral sex on multiple occasions and sexual intercourse on April 15, 2014.

I know this is immoral and wrong, but if the student is 18 years of age does that make this two consenting adults?

YNo 2:13 I don't see anything wrong with that question. I hope she doesn't have to go to prison for this. Obviously she shouldn't be a teacher anymore but this isn't a prison-worthy issue.

What would happen if the teacher were a man?

Love you Randy, but why does this lady get a scenic overlook Glamour Shot photo when a mam would have his mug shot posted?
On an aside, this seems a civil issue to me (though I know it is more). The guy is 18 and an adult. He breaks the law - he's tried as an adult. They played hide the weiner, I get it. She doesn't need to be a teacher, but she doesn't deserve a sexual predator label or criminal charges.

She has not been arrested yet, so there is no mug shot out there. Teachers are fully aware that it is a felony in the state of Missouri to have sex with a student no matter how old the student is.

It sounds like the young man bragged about a relationship/friendship, then the rumor mill got fired up. She was probably forced to resign in a room full of administrative bullies who already promised to pay off the young man if he does not sue the school district for a false statement. Praying someone is doing an actual investigation as there seems to be a lot of conflicting stories.......waiting on the truth in court could take years. Do they monitor sports players and coaches to see who is going in and out of offices and locker rooms?

An actual investigation? Thats not likely. An investigation would take away valuable time that they need to chalk up more cases. The more cases that they have on the docket the more they can show the public they are 'fighting' crime. To law enforcement, its not about finding out the truth before they burden the court system with something, its about justifying their budget.

I can see where people are coming from about the young man being 18; however, it doesn't matter what the ages are. Teachers, who are in a power position, shouldn't have sex with students. Especially not at the school. Being a teacher, and a music teacher, myself, I am saddened at how often this happens with music teachers and coaches.

In Missouri it is a felony to have any sexual contact with a student. Regardless of their age.
